10 Time Saving and Productivity Enhancing Tips To Help You Get Things Done…
- Bin It! If it doesn’t need to be done, if it won’t contribute to anything to your business, then just get it off your list and bin it.
- Daily Goals. Without a clear focus for the day it’s too easy to succumb to distractions. Set targets for the day in advance and then do it.
- Worst First. Learn to tackle your least favourite tasks first thing in the morning. This small victory will set the tone for a very productive day.
- Peak Times. If you know you are better at certain tasks at different times of day then plan your tasks accordingly. If you are better at creative work in the morning, don’t save it to the evening. Work on the easy tasks at your non-peak times.
- Do Not Disturb Zones. Allocate blocks of time for work where you need to concentrate. If you can, work away from things that distract you like emails, phones and televisions if you work from home! It’s amazing how much you can get done without distractions.
- Mini – Milestones. When you have a big project or you begin a bigger task, identify the target you want to reach before you can stop. For example, if you are writing an article, you could decide that you won’t stop or take a break until you’ve done the first 500 words or completed a rough draft. Then hit your target no matter what.
- Batching. Batch similar tasks together like phone calls, emails or errands. This is a much more efficient way of managing your time rather than flitting from one thing to the next.
- Early Bird. Get up early in the morning and go straight to work on your most important tasks. You can often get more done in those few hours than most people get done in a whole day.
- A Quiet Haven. Take your laptop and go to a place where you can work flat out without distractions. This could be a coffee shop, a library, or a park.
- The Pareto Principle. This is the 80-20 rule which says that 80% of the value of a task comes from 20% of the effort. Focus your energy on those things that will bring about the biggest results – the 20% and don’t spend too much time on the other 80%.
